The Library Board of the city of Wylie met in regular session on August 13, 2001 at the Library. The attendees were:

1. Approval of the Minutes.

Minutes were approved as read from the July 9, 2001, meeting.

2. Discuss and Act Upon the Approval of Officers.

Shirley was re-nominated to the chair position and Grace was re-nominated to the vice-chair position.

3. Discuss Greeting Card Page Fundraiser.

The Library Board has agreed to assist the Friends of the Library with the Greeting Card Page Fundraiser this December. Mindy, Dan, and Mignon met to discuss the fundraiser a few weeks ago. They drafted a letter for the board to review and Mindy added the graphics. The Board agreed to send the letter out on nice paper with a graphic to the businesses and send it to the individuals on holiday paper as we have done in the past.

Board and friends members will be asked to do two phone calls. The initial call will be to let people know the letter is coming and the second call will be to encourage people to participate. Dan is going to check with the publishers at his employer on doing a mock GCP, and he is going to hand deliver the letters to the businesses. In September, phone scripts for board members will be discussed. The Friends group will write the scripts at the August meeting.

4. Discuss Monthly Report.

The Board was pleased with the increase in statistics during the month of July. Dan commented that the 60% increase in circulation was excellent and that he was pleased with the leadership of the library. Other board members agreed with his comment.

5. Discuss Summer Reading Club.

Summer Reading Club was a success this year. Over 2,000 people attended programs throughout the summer. There were 55 people who attended the Play. Plans for next year’s programs will begin in January 2002.

Mignon reminded the Board about the Author’s reception on Thursday, August 16, 2001.
