The Library Board of the city of Wylie met in regular session on September 10, 2001

at the Library. The attendees were:

1. Approval of the Minutes.

Minutes were approved as read from the August 13, 2001, meeting.

2. Discuss Monthly report.

Monthly statistics continue to increase at the Library. The Library hit 100,206 on August 31, 2001. There will be a staged checkout on September 11, 2001. The Board was pleased with the increasing numbers.

Mignon reported that the students had not been registering for library cards as much as new people in the community. However, Clinky will be visiting the schools on September 13 to promote Library Card Month.

3. Discuss Greeting Card Page Fundraiser.

Mignon presented the revised letter. Liz couldn’t attend the meeting tonight, but she expressed a concern about the time involved with all the phone calls that will be made by board and friends in November. Shirley clarified that the second round of calls will be for people who have not responded to the initial call or letter. The people who are doing the phone calls will be updated by email on the people who have responded.

Phyllis is working on compiling a list of people to call. The Friends group will meet on October 25 at 6:00 to stuff envelopes for individuals.

There were six people who attended the Friends meeting on September 6, 2001. Kathy mentioned we may want to do more marketing for that group and use the newcomer’s packets.

4. Discuss Christmas Party Plans.

The board agreed to schedule the party on December 10 at 6:30 p.m. Kathy volunteered her home for the party. The Library will close at 6:00 p.m. on that evening.

5. Discuss Celebration of 100,000 checkouts.

There will be a celebration on October 3 to thank the patrons for their support of the Library. There will be a walk-about puppet program, a clown, balloons, refreshments, and freebies for giveaways. There is a staged checkout scheduled for September 11, 2001, at 5:15 p.m. Board, Council, and press are invited to attend. Rita Smith, donor of the Library Building, will do the checkout and Tricia Smith will be the staff member doing the checkout.

There will be a special book signing by Judy Truesdell Mecca on September 25, 2001. The books are on character education for elementary and middle school levels.
