RITA & TRUETT SMITH LIBRARY BOARD

BOARD MEETING

The Library Board of the city of Wylie met in regular session on March 11, 2002 at the Library. The attendees were:

Adrian Sanchez
Kathy Spillyards
Shirley Burnett
Dan Hendrix

1. Approval of the Minutes.

Minutes were approved as read from the February 11, 2002, meeting.

  1. Discuss Monthly Report.
  2. There was a 25% increase in circulation over March 2001. Mignon prepared a graph for the board packets that shows the increases in circulation over the last three years. The board liked the graphics. Dan Hendrix suggested putting more visual images in the newspaper such as pictures and graphs of statistics. Dan volunteered to talk to Chad and make sure the information could be published in the newspaper.

  3. Discuss Spring Programs.
  4. The Library is featuring Arts Month in March. There is a display of Ted Lownik’s artwork in the Library. He is a well-known artist from the Chicago area. There was a program on March 5 and there will be another program on March 19.

    April is FRED month which is a new program provide by the Texas A&M Cooperative Extension Program. The purpose of the program is to encourage fathers to read with their children. The program will kick off with an orientation on April 1. The Young Author’s workshop will begin on April 1 too. There will be special programs during National Library Week too.

  5. Discuss Summer Board Meeting Schedule.

The Board agreed to skip the June meeting due to vacations. The Board will meet on July 8, 2002. This will be a very important meeting to approve the 4B budget.

NEW BUSINESS

Dan Hendrix announced that he has framed the Greeting Card Page and suggested that we present it to Rita Smith. Rita’s picture is at the top of the Greeting Card Page. The photo was taken at the October Celebration.

The Board decided to move the April meeting to April 9 if Rita is available for the Council agenda.
