City Facilities

As part the November 2005 bond program, Wylie voters approved four new City facilities.

Project Fire Station No. 3
Description This approximately 11,000 square foot facility will be built on City-owned property at the southeast intersection of Brown and W.A. Allen. It will feature three (3) apparatus bays, trailer storage facilities, living and working quarters for five (5) firefighting personnel and a small training room.
Status In the design stage. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall/winter 2007 with completion in fall/winter 2008.

 

Project Public Library
Description This approximately 45,000 square foot facility will be built on City-owned property along FM 1378 (Country Club) just north of FM 544. It will be part of a municipal complex along with the new City Hall and Recreation Center.The new Public Library will feature an adult area, children area, teen area, meeting rooms, quiet study rooms, technology area and a café area
Status In the design stage. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2008

 

Project Recreation Center
Description This approximately 40,000-50,000 square foot facility will be built on City-owned property along FM 1378 (Country Club) just north of FM 544. It will be part of a municipal complex along with the new Public Library and City Hall.The new Recreation Center will feature two basketball courts, cardiovascular/fitness area, indoor walking/running track, aerobics/dance rooms, classrooms, locker rooms and administrative office space.
Status In the design stage. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2008.

 

Project New City Hall
Description This approximately 40,000-45,000 square foot facility will be built on City-owned property along FM 1378 (Country Club) just north of FM 544. It will be part of a municipal complex along with the new Public Library and Recreation Center.The new City Hall will be home to the following departments: Office of the City Manager, Building Inspections, City Engineer, City Secretary, Finance, Human Resources, IT, Planning and Zoning, and Utility Billing. The new building will also feature a Council Chambers area.
Status In the design stage. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2008.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Will the new City Hall, Public Library and Recreation Center be built in phases?
A: No, City Council has given direction for all the buildings to be built to completion and not in phases.
   
Q: How much will membership cost at the new Recreation Center?
A: Membership fees have not been finalized. Currently, Wylie Parks and Recreation is working on a business enterprise plan for the recreation center. The plan will provide recommendations for developing membership fees.
Q: What will happen to the current Wylie Municipal Complex?
A: Construction of the new City Hall creates the opportunity to renovate the existing Municipal Complex into a Public Safety building for the Police Department, Fire Administration, Emergency Operations Center and Municipal Court.
Q: What will happen to the current Smith Public Library?
A: The Facilities Master Plan suggests that the existing Library Building be renovated to become a Senior Citizens Center; however, this has not been finalized.
