Park Updates
Founders Park
In November 2005, Wylie voters approved $6.965 million for improvements
to Founders and Community Parks. Of that, approximately $5.5 million
is to improve Founders Park, a 65-acrea park located just south
of Wylie High School.
City staff is working with Halff Associates on the improvement
project. At this time, proposed new amenities at Founders Park include
14 soccer fields, two baseball fields, concessions/restroom facility,
hike/bike trail and additional parking.
It is anticipated that construction should start in fall 2007 with
completion in summer 2008.
Community Park
In November 2005, Wylie voters approved $6.965 million for improvements
to Founders and Community Parks. Of the $6.965 million approved
by Wylie voters in November 2005 for parks improvement, approximately
$1.5 million is to improve Community Park, a 43-acrea park located
east of Burnett Junior High School.
Community Park improvements are proposed to include a 8-foot concrete
hike/bike trail, replacement of field lighting, additional t-ball
field, new bleachers, new concessions/restroom facility and improved
irrigation system.
Construction and completion is scheduled for fiscal year 2009-2010.
Skate Park – Joel Scott Park
In April, the Wylie City Council approved a Parks and Recreation
project to build a new skate park at Joel Scott Park, adjacent to
Birmingham Elementary at Westgate Way and Brown. Proposed by the
Wylie Parks Board, the skate park will cost $87,000 and is scheduled
to be built this summer.
The skate park elements will be installed upon a newly-constructed
4,800 square foot post-tensioned concrete slab in the new addition
of Joel Scott Park on the westside of Westgate Way. The skating
elements will feature banks, grinding rails, pipes, benches, and
flat bars. The skating area will be surrounded by landscaping, irrigation
and an accessible concrete hike/bike trail.
Basketball Courts
A total of five new basketball courts have been installed, with
two at Community Park, one at Eureka Park, one at Friendship Park
and one at Lakeside Park.
