Police Warn of Illegal Solicitations |
|
|
The Wylie Police Department
(WPD) would like to warn local businesses of a possible illegal solicitation
scam. Since Thursday, WPD has
received several calls from local businesses of what could be deemed as
“shady” activity. Reports have that four
people (three males and one female) are approaching local businesses and
saying that they represent a company or government entity. The people in question inform the business
that they are not in compliance with some type of regulation and that they need
to purchase a poster for placement in their business to become in
compliance. The people then ask for a credit or debit card to swipe for payment. WPD expect that this might also be part of an identity theft scheme. The group is dressed in
blue business suits and driving a black Hyundai with Florida license plate. If someone fitting this description comes to your business, please contact the Wylie Police Department at 972.442.8171. In addition, WPD would like to remind local businesses that any person going door-to-door is supposed to have a solicitor’s permit from the Police Department. Correction: The City would like to clarify that a
solicitation permit is not required for door-to-door solicitation of
businesses; however it is required for residential door-to-door solicitation. More information can be found in Chapter
82 “PEDDLERS AND SOLICITORS” of the City of Wylie - Code of Ordinances. |
