Alanis Drive and Stone Road Open for Traffic

Traveling around Wylie has just gotten easier.  Two key road projects funded by the 2005 Bond Program are now open for traffic.  The new four lane section of Alanis Drive, from Twin Lakes to FM 544, provides an additional East/West route through Wylie.   Stone Road has been expanded from two lanes to a four lane divided thoroughfare from Ballard to Akin.

Public Servants Recognized during September 11 Council Meeting

Brandon Gibson
Jim Swartz, CEO of Care Flight and Fire Chief Randy Corbin presented Brandon Gibson with the annual “100 Greatest Responders” award. Firefighter/Paramedic Gibson was chosen not only for his consistency in emergency care, but his recent performance in two separate major incidents. 

Emergency Communications Dispatchers
Assistant Police Chief Duscio and Fire Chief Corbin presented Wylie Telecommunication Appreciation Awards to Brian Stanfield, Albert Allen, Lisa Laird, Dana Davis, Amanda Peeples, Aaron Oleson, Shelly Holcomb and Allyson Frederick.  Chief Corbin praised the team for their service and dedication to the City and Wylie Public Safety. 

Wylie East High School Dedication – September 16

Come celebrate the opening of Wylie Independent School District’s seventeenth campus, Wylie East High School.  The festivities begin at 2 pm this Sunday, September 16, at 3000 Wylie East Drive.  Refreshments and tours are available following the dedication ceremony.

15th Annual Wylie Championship Rodeo – September 14-15

Join the Chamber of Commerce for this premier community event.  From pro rodeo action to western themed craft and vendor booths to food from a variety of concessionaires to the Kiddie Corral, there is something for everyone.  Test your riding skills on the mechanical bull, play games, or jump around on the many bounce houses.

Tickets:

Adults - $10  for one night, $15 for two nights
Children (12 & under) - $5 for one night, $8 for two nights, 3 & Under FREE

Family Pack* - $25 for One Night, $40 for two night ticket

*(Family Pack Includes 2-Adult Tickets, 2-Children Tickets, plus 2 Kiddie Corral Passes)

Clean Up, Green Up Scheduled October 8-13

Missed spring cleaning?  Then take advantage of the City of Wylie’s Fall Clean Up, Green Up, scheduled for October 8-13 in Founders Park, 949 Hensley Lane.  Drop off items Monday – Friday 2pm – 7 pm and Saturday 8am – 7 pm.  Clean Up, Green Up is closed on Sunday. 

 

Trash Guidelines

• NO TIRES, PAINT CANS, OIL, BATTERIES OR OTHER HOUSEHOLD

  HAZARDOUS WASTE MATERIALS

• Items must be placed inside dumpster

• Leaving items outside dumpsters & other improper disposal

  will be subject to City prosecution

• Wylie citizens only—identification is required

• Residential debris only—no commercial items will be accepted

 

Recyclable items:

• Appliances

• Brush

• Cardboard

• Electronics (computers, TVs, etc.)

• Scrap metal

 

Document Shredding (Saturday 8 am – noon only)

• Bring your personal documents for shredding.

 

Donations

Earth First will be accepting the following items

that are in reusable condition:

• Clothing - All Types

• Kitchen Stuff - Pots, pans, dishes, etc.

• Electrical - TV’s, DVD’s, stereos, etc.

• Furniture - dressers, chairs, bookcases, etc.

• Miscellaneous- Cameras, toys, bikes, etc.
