Records and Statistics
The Records Retention division maintains Uniform Crime Reports
(UCR) for police records and fulfills requests for open records
pertaining to the Police Department.
Each year, WPD submits its UCR data to the Federal Bureau of Investigations
(FBI). These crime stats are separated into Part 1 and Part 2 crimes.
The city’s crime rate is calculated on Part 1 crimes (crime
index) per 100,000 population, which is the industry standard selected
by the FBI.
In 2006, Wylie had 38 certified officers for a ratio of 1.15 officers
per 1,000 population. With a 30% increase in both total calls for
service and total crimes reported, WPD had 633 calls for service
per officer and 83 crimes reported per officer. As outlined in its
strategic plan, WPD suggested staffing standards are 1.4 –
1.6 officers to 1,000 population, 300-500 calls for service per
officer, and 40-60 crimes reported per officer.
