Computer Classes

Computer classes are for adults 18 and up.

Course Descriptions
Microsoft Office Products
Word 1 (2 Hours) - Learn how to create, edit, save and print documents with Microsoft Word. Word 1 explores features new to Microsoft Office 2010 including the navigating the Office ribbon. Topics also covered include navigating the ribbon, using the built-in proofing tools and formatting a document.
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard.

Word 2 (2 Hours) - Must be comfortable with topics covered in Word 1 Expand your knowledge of Microsoft Word in Word 2. This class covers using the page layout and insert tabs. Topics also covered include inserting and formatting tables, configuring borders and shading, working with pictures, and templates.
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard.

Word 3 (2 Hours) - Our third level of Microsoft Word covers some of the program's advanced features. Learn about hyperlinks in documents and using built-in styles. Other topics include creating a table of contents, creating an index, and using mail merge.
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard. Must be comfortable with topics covered in Word 1 and 2.

Excel 1 (2 Hours) - Learn the basics of working with spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel 2010. Excel 1 explores features new to Microsoft Office 2010 including the navigating the Office ribbon. Topics include entering data and formulas, moving and copying data, formatting and print previewing worksheets.
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard.

Excel 2 (2 Hours) - Expand your knowledge of Microsoft Excel in Excel 2. This class covers working with formulas and calculations. Topics also covered include using view options, conditional formatting and pivot tables.
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard. Must be comfortable with topics covered in Excel 1.

Excel 3 (2 Hours) - Our third level of Microsoft Excel covers some of the program's advanced features. Learn about working with advanced functions like vlookup, if-then statements, and what-if analysis. Other topics covered include charts and graphs and advanced pivot tables Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard. Must be comfortable with topics covered in Excel 2 and 3.

Power Point & Presentation Skills (2 Hours) - Learn how to create a slideshow presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. Topics include creating and editing slides, inserting images and clip art, running your slide show, and creating slide animations. Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard.

Basic Computer Skills
Mouse Aerobics (2 Hours) - Learn the basics of using a computer mouse with Mouse Aerobics. Mouse Aerobics is a hands-on tutorial with online exercises teaching how to move and click a computer mouse. Function of the mouse is covered along with basic terminology. If you are just starting out, this is the class for you.
Prerequisites: None

Introduction to Computers (2 Hours) - Learn the basics of using a computer in this beginner class. Learn how to navigate the desktop, create folders, and organize your workspace. Additional topics will include parts of the computer, computer applications and the cloud.
Prerequisites: Must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard.

Introduction to the Internet (2 Hours) - This class covers the basics of using the Internet. Go over the basics of the web browser Internet Explorer and learn how to stay safe on the Internet. Basic terminology also covered.
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard.

Introduction to the Email (2 Hours) - In this class, you will learn about the web-based email account with Google’s email service Gmail. You will learn how to compose and send email. Email attachments, creating an address book, and other topics will also be covered.
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard.
Must have an existing Gmail account (see the Adult Service Desk for assistance).
