Permit Fees Waived
In order to assist Wylie in its rebuilding process, the City has waived permit fees. It's still important for contractors to obtain a permit; the permit/inspection process is in place to protect the homeowner from bad contractors and ensure that repairs are done right. For example, there have been instances where venting was dislodged on furnaces and hot water heaters during roof repairs that caused dangerous levels of carbon monoxide in the house.

It is ultimately the responsibility of the property owner to do due diligence and ensure the contractor chosen is reputable. Be advised that a City of Wylie permit is not required if the extent of the work is shingle replacement; anything involving the wood underneath or decking requires a permit. Permits are not required to replace siding unless the moisture barrier beneath the siding is damaged and needs to be replaced. Replacement siding material must be of the same or higher quality material.
Permits are not required to repair damaged masonry unless the moisture barrier beneath the brick veneer needs to be replaced. Damaged masonry walls may not be replaced with siding material.
Trash dumpsters for construction or storage PODS are not allowed to be placed in the street.
