Wylie Public Safety Communications utilizes the Integrated Computer Systems Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for call processing and dispatching, and the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) protocols to process EMS calls for service.

GENERAL JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:
Receives requests for police, fire and emergency medical services; dispatches public safety units; operates various telecommunications equipment; prepares reports; maintains files. This employee must be available to work any shift, holidays and weekends as needed for scheduling purposes.
Essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
Call-taking: Answering and processing E911 and non-emergency calls for service via Computer Aided Dispatch system. Monitoring and use of a telephone device for the deaf; utilizing maps and emergency resource materials; compiling daily reports for administration; recording information for Police/Fire/EMS personnel, and learning practices and procedures used by all departments.
Dispatching: Maintaining accurate status of Police/Fire/EMS personnel and apparatus via Computer Aided Dispatching system. Will conduct computer searches through local, state, and national crime databases for wanted subjects, stolen property, driver information etc.; Will make confirmations on wanted subjects and arrest warrants and relay said information to requesting officers; send teletypes via Texas and National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System; enter, clear, and validate computer entries with Texas Dept. of Public Safety and others; initiate and test emergency civil defense sirens, monitor direct incoming alarm panels, weather monitors, security and jail cameras, city wide radio and other mutual aid city radio channels.
Requirements include, but are not limited to:
- One year preferred experience in a police, fire, EMS, military or other similar communications environment using a Computer Aided Dispatch system.
- One year experience in a position with high public contact requiring decision making and problem solving.
- Knowledge of the practices and procedures used by police and fire departments.
- TCLEOSE Telecommunicator, NCIC 40 Hour, and NIMS (National Incident Management System) certifications within one year of hire date, and NAED EMD certification within six month probation period.
- Knowledge of telephone skills as related to multiple incoming emergency and non-emergency lines
- Difference between civil and criminal law, practices and procedures used by police and fire departments.
- Skill to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, good diction and enunciation
- Skills to communicate via radio system
- Working knowledge of windows 2000 operating system.
Intensive background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological examination, pre-employment physical and drug test are required as a condition of employment. Position is full time, plus overtime, nights, weekends and holidays.

Under direction of the City Secretary, this individual is responsible for performing administrative secretarial work requiring specialized knowledge of administrative management and familiarity with municipal government laws and regulations. Opportunity for State’s City Secretary certification program will be considered.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs duties of City telephone operator, answering the City’s main telephone line.
- Performs administrative secretarial duties requiring above-average administrative skills, considerable discretion, confidentiality and specialized knowledge.
- Make effective decisions without constant supervision.
- Prioritize workload effectively.
- Assist public by telephone or in person, with questions requiring knowledge of policies and procedures.
- Interact effectively with the City Council and applicable Boards, including coordinating City Council Meetings and other functions related to the City Secretary’s office.
- Heavy use of spreadsheet and reporting skills.
- Write legibly when taking messages, screen calls with tact and courtesy.
- Schedule various meetings; coordinate and conduct special meetings and/or events, take minutes at meeting and/or transcribe dictation.
- Prepare correspondence and various reports and/or documents for general distribution.
- Search and maintain extensive files connected with the City Secretary’s department.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
May be required to assist with preparation of Council Agendas and/or agendas for other official boards of the City. May be required to attend City Council meetings and/or Board meetings.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Five years experience as an administrative secretary.
RECREATION SUPERVISOR
DEPARTMENT: Public Services-Recreation Division
STARTING SALARY: $20.33 per hour (equal to $42.4K per year), non-exempt

JOB SUMMARY:
- Supervises, plans and organizes recreation activities and special events at various recreational sites.
- Supervises staff at various recreation sites, buildings, facilities, and programs.
- Responds to public inquires about recreation programs made by telephone, mail and email correspondence or during public meetings.
- Develops, markets and promotes programs through recreation publications, newsletters, fliers, web content management and other media.
- Teaches, coordinates and implements a variety of courses based on individual abilities and the needs of the community.
- Assists in the operation of a public recreation facility, including registration, equipment check out, answering telephones, supervising building activities, facility and rental scheduling, transporting/participating in outings and related duties.
- Assists in the preparation and the successful implementation of the annual budget.
- Develops and assigns work schedules. Approves recreation staff time sheets.
REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of two years of job related experience in the recreation programming field primarily with senior adults, with a preference of five or more years of job related experience, including a minimum of two years of successful supervisory experience. Valid Texas Driver’s License with no restrictions except “A”, clear driving record. Bachelor’s degree with major course work in parks and recreation programming, recreation administration, therapeutic recreation or related field, a minimum of two years of related experience, and two years of successful supervisory experience. CPR/FA certification required or ability to obtain within six months after hire. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred, but not required.
RECREATION PROGRAMMER- FITNESS
DEPARTMENT: Public Services-Recreation Division
STARTING SALARY: $18.41 per hour, non-exempt

JOB SUMMARY:
- Assists with planning, organizing, supervising, evaluating and coordinating all fitness-related programs and activities, including group fitness classes, personal training programs, and adult sports leagues.
- Assists with the development, coordination, implementation, supervision and evaluation of a variety of recreational programs, activities, special events and facilities.
- Supervises participants during programs and enforces program and building rules, regulations and procedures.
- Evaluates fitness programs and recommends areas for improvement.
- Performs administrative duties in Group Fitness and Personal Training area.

- Teaches, coordinates and implements a variety of courses based on individual abilities and the needs of the community.

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree with major course work in parks and recreation programming, recreation administration, therapeutic recreation or related field. CPR/FA certification or ability to obtain within six months after hire. Certified Parks and Recreation preferred, not required. A minimum of two years of job related experience in the recreation programming field. Knowledge of the philosophy and techniques of recreation programming, equipment and supplies standard to recreation programs. Working knowledge of Group Fitness Instruction and Personal Training is preferred, but not required. Ability to exert 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly.
