Computer Classes

 

To sign up send an email to libraryclasses@wylietexas.gov or call the Adult Help Desk at 972-516-6250 option 3.

Registration is available two weeks before date of class.

Computer classes are for Adults 18 and up. Classes are paid for by the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program and the City of Wylie

Basic Computer Skills

Mouse Aerobics (2 Hours)
Prerequisites: None

Learn the basics of using a computer mouse with mouse aerobics. Mouse aerobics is a hands-on tutorial with online exercises teaching how to move and click a computer mouse, and click buttons.

Computers 1 (2 Hours)
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard

Learn the basics of using a computer in this beginner class. Topics include identifying parts of the computer, basic maintenance, and virus protection. If you are just starting out this is the class for you.

Computers 2 (2 Hours)
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard

This class builds on the information in Computers 1. Topics include creating and accessing folders, organizing files in folders and navigating the desktop.

Thursday, May 24 10:00am to Noon


Basic Email (2 Hours)
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard. Must have an existing Gmail account (see the Adult Service Desk for assistance)


In this class you will learn about the web based email account with Google’s email service Gmail. You will learn how to compose and send email. Email attachments, creating an address book, and other topics will also be covered.

Microsoft Office Products

Word 1 (2 Hours)

Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard

Learn the basic features of Microsoft Word 2010, a word processing program used to create documents. In this class you will learn how to create, save, and edit documents. Other topics covered included basic document and text formatting.

Thursday May 17 – 1:00 to 3:00pm


Word 2 (2 Hours)
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard. Must be comfortable with topics covered in Word 1

Explore more advanced features of Microsoft Word 2010. Topics include inserting and editing tables, boarders and shading, and applying styles. 

Thursday May 17 – 1:00 to 3:00pm


Word 3 (2 Hours)
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard. Must be comfortable with topics covered in Word 1 and 2

Explore more advanced features of Microsoft Word 2010. Topics include page layout features, inserting/editing images, and text wrapping.

Excel 1 (2 Hours)
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard.

Learn the basics of working with spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel 2010. Topics include entering data and formulas, moving and copying data, formatting & print previewing worksheets.

Excel 2 (2 Hours)
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard. Must be comfortable with topics covered in Excel 1

Explore more advanced features of Microsoft Word 2010. Topics include creating/editing formulas and manipulating cells and data

Monday, May 14 - 6:00 to 8:00pm
Tuesday, May 15 – 1:00 to 3:00pm


Excel 3 (2 Hours)
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard. Must be comfortable with topics covered in Excel 2 and 3

Explore more advanced features of Microsoft Word 2010. Topics include working with formulas, creating charts, and working with macros

Monday, May 21 - 6:00 to 8:00pm
Tuesday, May 22 – 1:00 to 3:00pm


Power Point (2 Hours)
Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and must be comfortable using the mouse and keyboard

Learn how to create a slideshow presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. Topics include creating and editing slides, inserting images and clipart, running your slideshow, and creating slide animations.

Open Lab
(1 Hour)

Are you having trouble with your email? Don't know how to cut and paste? Curious about Twitter? Having trouble with your eBook reader? Bring your technology questions and get one-on-one assistance.

Monday, May 7 - 2:00 to 3:00pm


Resume Lab (2 Hour)
Use this supervised lab time to create and save a resume in Microsoft Word. Assistance with document formatting and proofreading will be available. Please bring a written draft of your resume and a USB drive to save and print your resume. (Please note: This is not an instructor led class or a career advisement session.)
