Wagging Tales

Doggies need books too!

Independent readers are invited to come read

to our favorite library dog.

6:30-7:30pm

April 15

May 6 and 20

Abby is a Delta Society trained dog and kids can practice their skills by reading to her. Studies have proven that struggling readers do better when reading to a dog and they get lots of love and affection too. For more information on the benefits of Wagging Tales, please check out the Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) website.

Tickets are free but limited and given out on a first come first serve basis on the evening of the event.

Be-Tween Book & Movie Club

Never judge a book by its movie

For 4th & 5th graders only!

Hotel for Dogs Thursday 3/25/10 6:30-7:30pm

Nim’s Island Thursday 4/22/09 6:30-7:30pm

Freaky Friday Thursday 5/27/09 6:30-7:30pm

The Be-Tween Book & Movie Club is funded by the Friends of the Smith Public Library. The first 15 kids to sign up get a free copy of the book we are discussing that month!

How it works:

4th & 5th graders are encouraged to read the book and watch the movie on their own time, then come to our meeting for discussion. We talk about the differences between the book and movie, favorite plot points and characters and much more! We read passages from the book and watch scenes from the movie. Refreshments are provided.

How do I get my free book?:

Just come to the children’s reference desk at the library. The first 15 kids to sign up get a free copy of the book!

Do I have to like the book or the movie to come?

No! If you don’t like it come tell us why. If you like one or the other that’s ok too. We welcome all 4th & 5th graders whether they liked the book or movie or not.

Please no parents or younger siblings at the meetings. Thanks for your cooperation.
