Winter / Spring 2015 Activity Registration for courses that have a start date between January and May are available for registration Monday, December 1 through Sunday, December 7 during Early Bird Online Registration. Rec Pass Holders save 30% during Early Bird Online Registration. Standard Registration in-person and online begins the following Monday, December 8. Rec Pass Holders save 15% during Standard Registration.  

Summer 2015 Activity Registration for courses that have a start date between June and August will be accepted online beginning Monday, April 27 and in-person on Monday, May 4.

Fall / Winter 2015 Activity Registration for courses that have a start date between September and December will be accepted online beginning Monday, July 27 and in-person on Monday, August 3.

Some Activities may require special registration procedures including dates. Payment in full and a City of Wylie waiver is required prior to participation.

Celebration Luncheon
Happy birthday to you, and you and you! Give and get celebratory wishes during this long-standing Wylie tradition. Fill your belly with a hot, hearty and free meal with friends and take home the latest program information. Eat, talk, laugh and stick around for an afternoon of games and door prizes. Register by Monday prior to event.

Dinner Double Feature
Sit back, relax and enjoy the show! Watch a double feature on the Senior Center’s big screen. Movie selections based on favorite flicks from the past and present day remakes. Dinner and dessert served throughout the show for a hassle-free meal and movie going experience.

G.I. Jive Senior Prom
Join us for the 3rd annual Senior (Citizen) Prom. Dust off your dancing shoes and come ready to relive your favorite moments from high school prom or experience the prom you never got to enjoy. PreK Parties
You are invited to four seasons of holiday celebration! Play a variety of themed games and create fun arts and crafts with your little ones. Enjoy interactive holiday tales and enjoy special yummy treats while making memories and new friends. Theme appropriate outfits encouraged! Preregistration and parent participation required. Register per child. Includes parent.

Summer Kick-Off Tea Dance
Looking for a party to show off your ballroom skills? Make new friends, express yourself and have a blast in this relaxed yet lively setting for singles and couples. Receive dance instruction followed by open dance. Refreshments provided. No experience necessary. Dress to impress!

The "Chew" Luncheon
“Chew” over your recreation ideas, wants and needs with peers. Lending your voice created programs like YANA (You are Not Alone), Gold Card events and new trips. Gain inside information on upcoming events and influence programming. Share ideas, brainstorm and ask questions. You provide the input, we provide the lunch.

ABCs & 123s
A is for Alligator and F is for FUN! In a positive learning environment develop critical thinking, problem solving, and social skills. Develop fine motor skills and get creative with arts and crafts. Encourage a successful transition to kindergarten through a variety of games and purposeful play. No class 3/13.

Third Monday Book Bunch
Social networking and a good book. No batteries required! Immerse yourself into a good story with friends. Discuss thrilling tales, mysterious manuscripts and awe-inspiring adventures. Paperback books selected a month in advance by the group and based on group discussion and interest.

Artful Oil Painting
Amaze your family and friends with a beautiful oil painting on canvas created by you! Learn color mixing with an arranged palette, time-saving brushstrokes and step-by-step instruction from a professional artist. Stretch your creative legs while making new friends. Invaluable tips and supplies included.
Ages: 6 - 12 Yrs

Crafty Kids
Explore kid crafts worthy of proud display on the refrigerator door! Learn how to follow instructions while making friends and thinking creatively. Enjoy fun and educational themed projects while working on hand and eye coordination through cutting, pasting, coloring and more! Parent participation required. Dress to mess! Registration includes child and parent.

Decoupage Class
Learn the basic techniques of decoupage: the art of gluing paper cutouts to transform an ordinary object into a custom design. By combining paper, paint and pictures almost any object can be tailored to reflect your personality or match your home décor.

Senior Craft Corner
Get crafty! Create one of a kind treasures to keep or share with your friends. Quick and easy projects include something for everyone. Learn a new skill or show off an old one in a friendly environment with fellow crafters.

Learn how to transform a plain block of wood into art. Unleash your imagination and creative potential as you unwind, relax and make friends. Gain basic tips and learn proper use of tools, easy to follow techniques and important safety guidelines. You provide the creativity and we provide the supplies.

Considered by many to be the foundation for all types of dance, this instruction includes barre work, across the floor progressions, centre work and combinations. Curriculum focuses on the French terminology and appropriate classical music. All levels of dance experience welcome.

Country and Western Dancing
Boot scoot your way to fun and health! Learn basic steps and turns, and work up to more advanced moves. Energizing steps get your feet moving as you build confidence. All levels benefit from a self paced instruction that helps you dance like a pro.

Senior Round Up Line Dance
Learn to boot-scootin-boogie with friends. Line dancing improves balance, memory and cardio stamina. Learn the basic steps of traditional line dances and country couple dance. All levels welcome.

Blogging Basics
Learn to blog! Blogging can be a great way to share your story, express yourself and even make some money! Discuss everything you need to know to get started blogging, from technical details to social media to creating blog posts people want to read.
Ages: 16 Yrs +

Game Producer
Learn how to produce a video game on your Windows PC. Design levels, make characters, program movements and more. Then make a TV commercial that sells your game. Discover the filmmaking process, including writing, filming, acting and directing. Bring a flash drive.

Sports Instruction

Learn the Ryubukai Okinawan art of self-defense that employs hand strikes and kicks with swift and calculated movements used to disable or subdue an opponent. Focus on the flow of movement, sparring and weapons while attaining discipline, self-control and physical fitness in a family-oriented environment. No class 1/19 - 1/22, 2/16 - 2/19, 3/9 - 3/12 and 3/30 - 4/2.

Soccer Shots
A fun introductory soccer program for the kids! Build character, learn about teamwork and sharing, improve communication skills and refine coordination. Learn basic skills through individual and group activities that familiarize participants with the game while preparing young bodies for an active childhood.

Learn the exciting game of tennis! This combination of fun and effort develops attention span, stamina, discipline and confidence. Tai Chi
Tai Chi Chuan, better known as Tai Chi, is an ancient Chinese martial art practiced as a superior health art and a form of moving meditation. Mambo, Tango and Merengue your way into getting fit! Gain musicality and balance with this unique combination of endurance and dance conditioning. Learn popular moves while developing coordination. No partner needed in this infectiously fun and easy calorie burning group exercise environment.

Kick, punch and sweat your way to your fitness goals. Burn calories fast while you increase cardiovascular endurance, strengthen and tone muscle. Develop coordination while learning boxing combinations such as jabs, hooks, uppercuts and kicks in a positive and encouraging group setting.

Barre Fitness
Get ready to burn fat, sculpt muscles and have fun! Barre focuses on conditioning and toning the entire body. By blending classical ballet exercises, pilates and traditional conditioning movements, Barre helps you to develop muscular endurance, dynamic balance, flexibility, posture and core strength. No dance experience necessary.

Chair Exercise
Fit and fun low-impact exercise adapted to fit the needs of those with disabilities, poor balance or trouble standing on the floor to exercise. Instructor uses a variety of tools such as resistance bands, arm weights and group exercise techniques to keep you on your toes and feeling great!

Beneficial for all fitness and experience levels, Yoga produces a feeling of well-being and body-awareness. Enjoy an energetic workout that uses a flowing series of postures to increase strength, flexibility, endurance and balance. Learn how to coordinate breathing with movement to improve mental and physical health and release stress.

Ditch the workout and join the party! This fusion of Latin and international music creates a dynamic, exciting and effective cardio session. The routines feature interval training techniques with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Lose yourself in energetic moves while shaping up.

Creative Movement
Parent and child benefit from this nurturing introduction to movement and dance. Musically inspired leaps, bobs, jumps and turns help to foster imagination while improving gross motor skills and body awareness. Enjoy sharing the joy of music and dance with your little one. Charge your camera!  See a one-of-a-kind tulip show featuring over 500,000 blooming spring bulbs as well as an outstanding collection of daffodils, violas, poppies and more.  Experience one of the most spectacular floral displays in the world while enjoying the featured activities with friends or family. Bishop Arts District Tour
Located in the heart of North Oak Cliff, The Bishop Arts District is home to over 60 Independent boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops, theatres and art galleries. Tour the Oak Cliff Cultural Center art gallery and exhibition space, eat lunch at the famous Lockhart BBQ and finish the day with coffee and pie from Emporium Pies.

Founders Plaza @ DFW Airport
Calling all aviation enthusiasts! The observation area at Founders Plaza offers amazing views of many types of aircrafts as they take off and land. The plaza provides telescopes, historic information, a commemorative monument and a live radio broadcast of the air traffic control from the FAA tower.

Harbor Lights Sunset Cruise
Harbor Lights Cruise resides at the Hilton Hotel in Rockwall, one of the most scenic locations on Lake Ray Hubbard. Relax on the deck and enjoy the stunning views, sparkling water, and colorful sunsets. Take a turn at steering the boat. Sailing and boating lessons are complimentary with every cruise!

Texas Discovery Gardens
Texas Discovery Gardens is a year-round organically maintained urban oasis filled with natural wonders and daily butterfly release. Take a behind the scenes tour of the Rosine Smith Sammons Butterfly House and Insectarium and be transported to a tropical rainforest, complete with hundreds of free-flying butterflies.

The King & I Musical
Music Hall at Fair Park presents “The King and I” the Musical. It’s 1862 in Siam when an English widow and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace, having been summoned by the King to serve as a tutor to his many children and wives. The tale of East versus West makes for a dramatic, richly textured and ultimately uplifting account of enormous fascination.

Senior Chow Critics
Everyone’s a critic! Hunt for the best burger, perfect pepperoni pizza and excellent egg fooyung around while exploring local metro eateries both new and well established. The Reelers
Calling all movie buffs! Meet with fellow movie lovers to enjoy cult classics and black and white favorites at the center, and travel with the group to visit some of the area’s finest boutique theaters and historic cinemas throughout the season.

A City of Wylie Waiver is required prior to participation in any recreation activity. The Parent or Legal Guardian must complete the Waiver of any minor age 17 and younger.
