Reach for a Star
More than 500 Children In Need of Gift Assistance
Imagine waking up Christmas morning and not finding any
gifts under the tree. That is the reality or many area children
and families. This year, help a child’s wish come true. Pick-up
a star(s) between November 12 and December 5 at
City Hall or other Reach for a Star locations. Purchase three of
the gifts listed on the tag and drop them off by December 5 at City
Hall or the original location the star was selected.
The City of Wylie’s Reach for a Star program continues to
grow. Last year the program assisted 370 Children. This year, with
your help, 500 children from 195 families will have gifts to open
Christmas morning. City Staff and volunteers began accepting and
reviewing applications from needy families in October. The donated
gifts will be organized at the National Guard Armory for pick-up
mid December.
Wylie Christian Care Center
The City of Wylie works in partnership with the Wylie Christian
Care Center. While Reach for a Star provides toys and clothing,
Christian Care will provide families in need with food. To donate
food, contact the Christian Care Center at 972.442.4341.
History
Started in 1999, Reach for a Star provided clothes and toys to 243
children. Reach for a Star is modeled after similar national programs
that allow individuals to become personally involved in donating
to those who are in need.
