Permit Fees Waived
In order to assist Wylie in its rebuilding process, the City has waived permit fees. It's still important for contractors to obtain a permit; the permit/inspection process is in place to protect the homeowner from bad contractors and ensure that repairs are done right. For example, there have been instances where venting was dislodged on furnaces and hot water heaters during roof repairs that caused dangerous levels of carbon monoxide in the house.

Following is a link to suggestions from the Building Inspections Dept. to assist in the choice of a reputable contractor.

Following is a list of contractors who have registered with the City to obtain permits. The City does not endorse any contractor, nor have we performed any vetting or background checks. It is ultimately the responsibility of the property owner to do due diligence and ensure the contractor chosen is reputable. Be advised that a City of Wylie permit is not required if the extent of the work is shingle replacement; anything involving the wood underneath or decking requires a permit. For questions, call Building Inspection at 972-516-6420.

Storm damage assessment, response, restoration! The City of Wylie is here to assist you in an effective response to April 11, 2016, storm damage.
Cover all areas that could be further damaged by additional rain. Use tarps to protect damaged roofs, skylights or other overhead damage. Use plywood, oriented strand board (OSB), or tight tarps for windows and other vertical areas.

Repair Permits
Re-roofing permits (overlay) are only required if decking is damaged and needs to be replaced. Two layers of composition roofing may be stacked; however, removal and replacement is recommended.
Permits are not required to replace broken windows, as long as the replacement windows consist of the same energy rating.
Permits are not required to replace siding unless the moisture barrier beneath the siding is damaged and needs to be replaced. Replacement siding material must be of the same or higher quality material.
Permits are not required to repair damaged masonry unless the moisture barrier beneath the brick veneer needs to be replaced. Damaged masonry walls may not be replaced with siding material.
Trash dumpsters for construction or storage PODS are not allowed to be placed in the street.

Temporary Use Permits
Temporary use permits for storm damage assessment purposes will only be issued in commercial zoning districts, and must be authorized by the property owner. Tents will be fire retardant or treated as specified by the fire department.

For further information regarding permits, contact the City of Wylie Building Inspections at 972-516-6420.
