The primary goal of the Citizens Police Academy is to foster a better relationship between the community and the police department through training, utilizing the philosophy of a two-way lecture. It is envisioned that class members will:
- Gain an understanding of the operations of the Wylie Police Department;
- Develop an awareness and appreciation of the various challenges and decisions faced daily by police officers; and
- Participate in practical exercises designed to illustrate various situations an officer experiences while on duty.
Graduates of the programs have formed the Wylie Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, an active group whose mission is to promote and enhance the relationship between the Wylie Police Department and the community through continued law enforcement education and support of the department’s effort.
